The Institute of Production Engineering specializes in discrete production. Within the field of manufacturing industry the Institute gives education in the areas of manufacturing methods and their automation and quality assurance techniques, including measurement and calibrations. Many of the skills imparted are applicable also more widely in the discrete manufacturing industry.
On the foundation of these basic techniques, productivity design for production systems is developed in order to support product design activities.
Education is supported by research, part of which consists of industrial applications. The other part is carried out within the Institute. Research is used to deepen the level of knowledge and to develop new design and planning tool.
